Opening to Friends with Benefits - Will Gluck

The next film opening I have decided to look at is the beginning of Friends with Benefits. To start the film there are several shot reverse shots flicking from each character which are used to make the audience think that Dylan and Jamie are on the phone to one another, making it seem like a typical romantic couple. However when the audience sees Jamie kiss another guy and Dylan with another girl, this becomes quite humorous highlighting the Rom-com genre. There's also close up shots of their facesto emphasize the expressions on the characters faces when both couples are breaking up. There is an over the shoulder shot used when Dylan is in his office from a colleges point of view this shows that he is superior in this environment and that he is the boss. Overall I think that Friends with Benefits is an effective film opening because it clearly shows in the first 2 mins exactly what the genre is (rom com) and also makes us interesting because it starts in a very different way.
