And the ideas process began...

Once we had done some research into the genre of our film (dark fairytale) we had to start brainstorming ideas for what we could actually do for our main piece. We started by, as a group, using the 'fairy dust' theory which involved thinking of ideas and putting them into a plastic bottle so we could then a couple of days later cut open the bottle and randomly pick out 3 ideas which we would then go forward to brainstorm; despite how outrageous and silly they may be!

The first idea we had was that from a horror story that I had heard when I was younger. The story would start with a little girl buying a doll; both very creepy and would fit in well with the horror aspect of our genre. However after much deliberation we decided that logistically this would be a hard film to produce because of the effects and characters we would have to provide, aswell as the idea being very stereotypical of the genre we were trying to portray.

The next idea we had came was coincidentally also mine and I was inspired by the film opening to Shrek. The film would start with a fairytale story being opened and the story being told would reflect what would happen later on in the film, but unlike Shrek the story read would be dark and typically scary. We thought that we did like this idea and we would try and incorporate it into the film somehow.

Then our third idea was that of a fortune teller, using one of her tarot cards as a mcguffin through the film. We liked this idea and decided that we were going to try and mix both this idea and the one above to create a film that would have the same conventions of a fairytale but would also use the dark side of a death tarot card to reflect what would happen later in the film.
