Legend Of Sleepy Hollow - Tim Burton

In order to get a good idea of the conventions of the genre we wanted to create (a dark fairytale) we looked at other films that had this genre and tried to create some of the same effects that they did. The first film I looked at is Sleepy Hollow which is directed by Tim Burton and is based on the classic ghost story. The main story is based in America, just before the end of the 18th century, and the small town of Sleepy Hollow which is experiencing a spate of grisly decapitations at the hands of a ghostly headless horseman. New York City Constable, Ichabod Crane, is dispatched to establish who, or what, is behind the strange murders and in the process he finds himself caught up in deadly small town politics. Throughout the film there are parts where the filming is almost black and white to try and emphasise both the age of the film and to create some tension for the audience, making the film not only visually fantastic but also makes us feel scared for the characters involved. The fast paced attitude of the film and music involved, helps to achieve the perfect atmosphere and we have taken a lot of ideas from this film for our opening.
