Snow White and The Huntsman - Rupert Sanders

The underlying message of Snow White and the Huntsman, the darkly re-imagined, thrilling new spin on the classic fairy tale, is that focus on and insecurity over one’s physical appeal to men is poison to a woman’s soul. Throughout the film there was a lot of quick choppy edits in order to give tension and show the fast pased feel of the genre being depicted aswell as using the classic conventions of the fairy tale (including dwarves, handsome prince, evil queen, mirror, apple etc) in order for us to feel as though we are watching a classic fairytale that has been redone. Although a lot of the characters could have done with a bit more developing, making it hard for us as an audience to feel compassion or hatred towards them, overall the film was an interesting spin on the classic fairytale and the cinematography and sound was all very well polished making for an enjoyable movie. One thing that I got from this film that will help when producing our film is the use of lighting and the colours created throughout; the director using lots of neutral colours aswell as blues in order to show the age of the film (as most fairytales are set in old times) which I would quite like to develop when making our opening.
